GOOGLE+ HOPES TO RIVAL FACEBOOK

Social-networking service already has more than 10 million members Google is hoping to rival Facebook as the world's most popular social network by launching Google+. Despite being in a 'limited field trial' and available only to a select few, the social network already has more than 10 million members. It lets you share photos, chat with friends and leave messages and comments. A Circles feature lets you create lists of friends to share content with. Google+ also offers Hangouts (group video chat) and Huddle (group instant messaging), while Sparks lets you interact with others who have shared interests. "We'd like to bring the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to software. We want to Qi jfc» tr .2LV S> od* O n t - i t M f i i it? - a -2Lrr interests. And so begins the Google+ project," said Google. The search-engine company has also revealed Android and iPhone apps that allow mobile users to access Google+.

A version of the service to rival Linkedln will eventually become available, too. "We're focused on optimising the consumer experience, make Google better by including but we have a great team of you, your relationships and your engineers building a similarly optimised business experience, said Google's product manager, Christian Oestlien. "It will include rich analytics and the ability to connect that identity to other parts of Google that businesses might use on a daily basis, such as AdWords. Google is discouraging businesses from using Google+ until this service has launched, however. "Our policy team will actively work with profile owners to shut down non-user profiles," Oestlien said. The business experience we're creating should far exceed the consumer profile in terms of its usefulness. We just ask for your patience while we build it. Google has previously launched Buzz and Wave social products, but neither are particularly successful.
