The next South African Automotive Week is only set for next year, but the associated SAAW Conference will take place later this month, and promises a ‘green’ focus. The conference aims to bring local industry “to a common understanding of the future direction, scope, speed, opportunities and pitfalls of the global green economy on automotive manufacturing,” and in doing so will overview a number of ‘green’ case studies. Some of the key topics under discussion for the event will include: ‘The present and future of manufacturing’, ‘Who will control the drivetrain?’ and ‘New ways of doing business – how do we read the signs and respond?’ In addition, it will allow attendees the option of registering for site visits to ELIDZ, Mercedes Benz SA, a photovoltaic cell factory and the Makana bio-fuel project, among others. The conference – themed ‘Green Machines: Opportunity & Risks for the SA Auto Industry’ - takes place between the 25 and 26 August 2011 in East London.
