USA, approximately 35,000 are adopted yearly,
with more than 10,000 from foreign countries.
2. Five percent of children born to unmarried
mothers during the 1990s were placed in
adoption.12
3. Although adoption has become discussed in the
media, it is essentially a private choice, both for
the birthmother and the adopting family.
